The Fantastic 4: First Steps (2025)
8/14/2025Mostly a return to form for the MCU. The aesthetics, set and costume designs here are absolutely on point. The 50s-inspired soundtrack brings it all together. CGI was mostly unnoticeable (in a good way) with a few exceptions. I found the Silver Surfer's design to look a little underbaked in some shots. I still overall enjoyed the movie and had quite a bit of fun. I think the biggest sin of this movie, however, is that its largely unforgettable. Nothing of substance happens in it and it's a very closed-loop story. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing in most cases but I feel that it'll be a largely forgotten origin story for the MCU's version of the Fantastic Four.

The Wild Robot (2024)
10/15/2024Very touching family movie. Lost me a little bit in the last act but overall the story was great an engaging. We've been reading the book as a family alongside the watch and, while I don't prefer some of the changes the movie made, I understand them. Kiddo absolutely loved it and cried a ton. My favourite thing about this movie, however, was the animation. Absolutely gorgeous. Love that movies are taking a more risks with the art direction and animation the last few years.
